So thankful!

So I guess I might not have been kidding when I said the Advent Calendar class would be my retirement class….seemingly I’ve gone into hibernation since then.  Sleep sleep sleep.  Well, it’s time to kick these snoozies to the curb and get some stuff done!  In my haste to work on Christmas things (i.e., the Advent Calendar and JOY classes) I neglected to make a Thanksgiving decoration.  Well didn’t Oliver just step up to the plate and make the most amazing decoration ever!  I was so impressed!  This was an Oliver Mimi project last week (it’s a bit better in person — I took a picture of it through a window since it’s hanging up and he didn’t want me to take it down…), but he did all the cutting (minus the hands — he was too tired at that point to do such intricate cuts), all the weaving, and all the drawing.  That’s one incredible turkey if you ask me (I’m not biased at all…).  And to top it all off when I showed him the picture I made with it on the computer, he signed his name using electronic pen and pad.  Yikes, I can hardly draw with those myself and I’ve had practice.  Okay, I’m done with my proud mama moment.

Anyway, today was lovely at my sister-in-law’s house.  She always outdoes herself with the food, and it’s nice to see Sweet Peter’s family — we dont’ get to see them very often.  But the thing that was the best was how thankful I REALLY REALLY Felt this year for my family.  Yesterday we had a little scare that totally put life into perspective for me.  Sweet Peter leaves for work at about 5 or 5:30am.  (I think we’ve discussed the nuttiness of this in previous posts.)  Anyway, at 6am the doorbell rings.  As I’m stumbling down the stairs I’m a little apprehensive to see who it is given that it’s pitch black out and 6 in the morning.  Oh, Police, okay, I can open the door.

“Sorry to wake you, do you own a silver Volvo?”  Okay, mild relief from not having a stranger ring the bell at 6am has totally faded and PANIC! has totally set in…

“IS MY HUSBAND OKAY?!?!?!”

The jist of the story is that Sweet Peter had broken down and walked to town to call for help (yes, we are the WORST family for phones in general, cell phones in particular.)    The car had broken down in a really bad spot and the police needed to have the car towed, so they had come to the house to let me know.  Why a phone call wasn’t adequate, I’ll never know, but total heart attack aside, the police were all super nice and helpful, I found Peter, and gave him BIG HUGS and now there’s lots of appreciation for a well and healthy family.  Please all hug everyone in your family today/tonight/tomorrow/always and be thankful that the police are not ringing your doorbell at some hour for something other than the good news my day ended with.

Happy Thanksgiving!
