Happy Earth Day!

Hope you all were able to do more for the earth today than we were.  Sigh.  And it’s a holiday I REALLY like to celebrate.  So we’ll do like with the birthdays….hold off for the weekend and do something fabulous.  Plant a bunch of stuff.  Make our grass critter out of old nylons (I’ll have to raid my mum’s drawers…I don’t wear dresses/skirts therefore do not own nylons), buttons, and maybe some yarn hair (though only necessary until it grows its grass hair.  Do some clean up on our road, perhaps.  Start my worm composting project that I’ve been wanting to do for some time now.  JUST DO IT!  And come up with some more ways we can help the environment.

Last weekend was fabulous.  We had a great time with the family — really nice to be together and have time together instead of just running from one thing to the next.  Food was really good too and sadly all I can think about right now.  Saturday lunch was falafel (sp?).  Haven’t had that in so long.  Not sure why.  And Sunday dinner after soccer was grilled veggies.  I’m so happy the farm stands are open.

Oliver’s second, my first since I was in NC last week, soccer game was great.  The coach is FANTASTIC!  So so good with the kids.  Tough to be assistant coach and follow that act, let me tell you!  But the kids are great and they all try so hard which is super important to me.  Oliver had a good time — need to teach him some aggression — who would have thought?  “It’s your turn, go ahead, take the ball.”  HA!  Better that than the kid who shoves the other kids I guess.

Man my kid needs a haircut!  It was pretty cute tonight all spiked up in the bathtub — too bad he won’t REALLY let me do that.  He always wants his hair FLAT.  I don’t dare tell him he’s got a little porcupine thing going on in the back.

Oliver was also SUPER excited to find that our turtle laid two eggs on Sunday.  I guess he’s never seen eggs she’s laid before or was too little to remember.  Or it’s far enough between lays that it’s exciting every time.  I’d really like to donate our turtle to a zoo or something.  So the species can propagate — she keeps laying eggs and we have no boy turtle.  I guess Asian Box turtles have become endangered since she was purchased 16, 17, 18? years ago.  Jeremy NEEDED to get a turtle when he was really into Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles when he was little.  It’s been Sweet Peter’s pet ever since.  HA!  I feel the need to explain what a NOISY pet a turtle is.  I thought it was just our turtle wanting to get out of her aquarium and all, but she does NOT like to get out of her aquarium and prefers to be in the dark and away from everyone and everything.  But she likes to climb the walls at night.  And a hard shell on a glass wall is NOISY.  Bang-dy-bang-dy-bonk for HOURS.  and I’ve heard from other turtle owners that this is common turtle practice.  So anyway, in the picture below, the walls are not actually as dirty as they look, but scratched all up from the climbing with turtle nails.  Posting the picture in case you’ve never seen a turtle egg before.  I was shocked when I saw her eggs for the first time.  They just seem to be the wrong shape…

Alright — was a busy but great day today.  It was fantastic to see our Huckins friends who we’ve not seen much of lately (except that I got to hang out with my “mom” friend at Inspired!  WOOT!), and have the kids run around in the park for a tiny bit.  Oliver was feeling a little punk after that and I think will be home from school tomorrow as he was sporting a temp tonight.  Wendy, hope your kids don’t get it!  SORRY!  Am off to create a bit and then hit the hay early in case it’s a rough night.  Hope y’all are enjoying creating.  Lately I’ve been working on things I CAN’T post.  Phooey!  Surprises are just so much more wonderful though.  Sweet Dreams!
