Mosquito-palooza

Have you ever NOT been able to see the mosquito haze was so bad?  We camped out in Transylvania or wherever those blood-thirsty little beasts breed.  The little vampires actually cut our camping short this weekend since they were all Deet-addicts and needed to take a hit off my child.  I hosed him down every ten minutes with deep woods off.  Worked pretty well during the day, but come dusk….well, now my child looks like he has chicken pox.  Think I’m exaggerating?  Think again.

We did have some really fun play prior to the dusk invasion…

this little girl was so incredibly cute — she saw the older kids go out in canoes/kayaks and was determined that she was going to go out too.  Her dad offered to take her out, but she was going to go on her own.  So instead she stood there very intently with a paddle.  I love the picture, though my camera is STILL acting up and, due to this picture alone, will make its way to the shop this weekend.  You may not be able to tell from the small blog sized photo, but it’s not right.

LOOK MUMMA!  The mosquitos are coming!  Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Okay, so Oliver didn’t really say that.  In fact, when I told him we were going I got “That’s not fair!  You’re a bad mumma!” which then immediately caused him to cry because he was certain I’d sell him to the mosquitos…or whoever you sell your children to.  After being calmed down and assured that he would not be sold, we managed to make it home and get the camping stuff cleaned up prior to me heading back to work which was kind of nice.  I like the photo above because it’s early in the weekend and you can see that Oliver’s actually a child instead of a big bug pincushion.

I’m was going to cut this blog sort of short because I’m TIRED.  Tired like I haven’t been in awhile.  Probably West Nile, chuckle.  BUT!  Since I’ve been such a bad blogger lately, I have to give a shout out to the Sweet Cameron.  Talked to her on the phone for *3 HOURS* the other night.  Which, for any of you who know me will think that I’m exaggerating since I don’t use the phone that many hours in several years.  In fact, I do NORMALLY try to avoid the telephone all together.  In fact, it didn’t bother me that it didn’t work all winter when it was raining in our house.  And TECHNICALLY I do not own a cell phone (my jeep does.  The phone rides around in there for emergencies.)  So, now you can see what a big deal this was.  Only it wasn’t.  ’cause the call seemed to last only a few minutes.  So so happy I met Cameron in the last minutes of Inspired.  Love fate.  Go send her some love on her blog — she’s thinking of getting her hugely talented rear in gear and selling her fabulous goods on etsy, so tell her what she should sell.  I got one of her bamboo necklaces so that’s my vote, only I hope she doesn’t make any like mine ’cause I’m selfish and I want a one of a kind!

AND!  I have to post this picture of “my Jackson.”  He can be my Jackson because I’m “his Katie”.  This was from Wendy’s rescue — swept Oliver and I off to Storyland for some normalcy in my life.  Got to play with my child for the day — FABULOUS!  Had the cruddy camera with me, but all the same this picture makes me happy.  And it should make Wendy and family pretty happy too, so here’s the post.

I shall write about school another day — off to do lunchbox notes.  (for those of you who keep asking what they are I will post some examples, but the mosquitos superimposed on my bug bitten child above are from a lunchbox note — just little things that happened earlier in the day/week, whatever.)  I think there are a few comments on my blog that I have yet to answer and A TON of emails that I am behind on, so hopefully this week I will get a FAQ together.  If you have anything you want answered, ask it in the comments in this post.

Sweet dreams.
