Cali Vacation Part 1: SeaLife

I was a scuba diver years ago. It is a hobby I miss, so I very much enjoyed hanging out at SeaLife and learning new things.

Of course the best things at SeaLife were two visitors….I’m not biased or anything.

I learned that an octopus has 8 arms, three hearts, and blue blood. I also learned that Octopi are very smart and at SeaLife they give the octopus enrichment activities. There was a ball in the tank for it to play with and a trap for the food. Apparently they mix up the enrichment activities. I think this may have actually been the first time I’ve seen an octopus.

And some random things I liked. We’re always big fans of jellyfish, sea horses, sea stars, and fish with teeth at our house….

Hope all is well with my friends. I have some exciting news I’ll share in the next couple days! Along with more vacation pictures!

A blue moon for the new year?! It feels to me like something magical and sparkly — like good things are going to happen!

So I’m not quite sure how it got to be so long between blog postings. Especially since I had a bunch of photos in my blog folder to post. Anyway, guess I’ll just start posting and get back in the roll. I really hope everyone had a great holiday break and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. I shall post our family festivities, but think I’ll catch up with some long overdue photos first.

This is an amazing family and I wish I had my act together in the fall because I really wanted to get these to them in time for Christmas. The youngest daughter was on my soccer team and *LOOK OUT!* she’s got some serious skills. It wasn’t a client session, per se, so I didn’t have the *MUST GET THESE DONE* fire under me. There’s nothing I can say but “Sorry!”

I am keeping this short tonight as I am determined to not get my life get away from me like it does in the fall. I am not a very good list person, but I’d love to hear ways people have for motivating themselves and/or keeping on top of everything they have to do. If it’s a list, it’s a list, but where do you put it, how do you handle it, etc. Happy New Year!

Enjoying the leaves

So after I named this post I realized I’m not actually posting any of the pictures where the family is truly enjoying their leaf fight….oops. Hopefully I’ll come back and edit it tomorrow with some new pics. I have been a little under the weather, but wanted to at least get a few pictures up for the family. They were so awesome and had such a good time together I hated to make them wait…Mom and Dad will have to wait for THEIR pics though.

My favorite picture — the girls are having fun and I especially like how the little one is still clutching her wild flowers.

Observations from the Road

So maybe suggestions too…

1. Find yourself a Wendy. Traveling is so much better with her. She was SO MISSED this year!

2. Nibs are way better than Twizzler bites.

3. Eating an entire bag of either will give you a stomach ache.

4. You can jack yourself up on enough caffeine that your hands will shake the car all over the road.

5. If you’re tired enough, this much caffeine will still not keep your eyes open.

6. If you pull over into a rest area to take a nap, take your glasses off.

7. How does one get a bruise on their face while lying on the seat face up? (see 6?)

8. Mourn loss of eyesight to the extent that (assuming) glasses + gravity = bruise. (See 6 and 7)

9. People will look at you funny if you have a bruise on forehead just above the bridge of your nose.

10. There’s nothing better than driving into your driveway, hearing the pitter pat of little feet, the front door being flung open, and greeted by “MOMMA!” after a long trip!

Marty Kelley Rocks

So I’ve been working on the bulletin board for the school library which I need to put up tomorrow. The author of the month is Marty Kelley. I love his humor and his illustrations so I decided that the bulletin board should be two (or more…I settled for two when I ran out of time…) giant book covers. When the author of the month is such a talented illustrator, why bother using your OWN creative juices…pilfer away. So I did my best to replicate his book covers in construction paper cutouts. I’m not quite as talented as Mr. Kelley, however, I think the children at the school know his books well enough that I’ll at least get an A for effort.

Unfortunately I wrecked the Winter Woes one’s scarf feeding it through the lamination machine.

I’m hoping “The Rules” one goes through better tomorrow. I also hope it fits…..

Oliver loves The Rules book. He would like to hang this one in his room when they’re done with it at school. We are very fortunate, in that, Marty is coming to Oliver’s school in the middle of April for the writer’s festival. Oliver will probably greet him by sticking a french fry up his nose or something. FANTASTIC!

Alright, I’m off to exercise…it is, afterall, only quarter to 11pm. I really need to get on a normal schedule! Sweet dreams.

Edited: [picture update] I think I liked the small photo better as you couldn’t tell how blurry it was, but here’s posted big upon request. My fireworks sparkle because I used a starlight filter — though I’m sure there’s someway to get the effect in photoshop, I do not know how. Sorry to be so unhelpful…

I hope everyone had a full and wonderful 2008 and has an equally wonderful new year.

Power outage Thursday night
No electricity

Phone came back yesterday

Decorating went fine. Sadly, I cannot say so much for my friend Wendy — it sounded like she was going to strangle someone or something with a strand of lights last night — hopefully today went better and there were no sparkley injuries!

Oliver and I are headed over to my mum’s tomorrow to tackle the 532 bins that are in her basement just itching to be brought upstairs (me) and distributed around the house (Oliver.) If I get Oliver to use the sweet eyes and ask nicely I might be able to get Mimi to bake us some cookies or something. Here’s hopin’!

A HUGE THANKS to Kal for being the best thing ever for my boy — she sent the NICEST little PERFECT package for him. He’s thrilled and in his room having the sweetest of dreams right now! Who needs Santa when you have a Kal?!?!

Give Thanks

Okay, so there’s been some crankiness in my life lately. But I guess it’s been good because it just goes to show ~~you~~ me, that I have some really amazing friends! Cameron cheered me earlier this week, and Wendy, Chelsea, and Jackson showed Oliver and I a great time last night. Thank you fabulous friends of mine. Not sure what I’d do without you! So I give thanks to them. And to my great family. And a million other things.

I hope you guys all have something to be thankful for! I am thankful for all that choose to check out my blog and participate in it in a positive manner.
